This is the second book in the author’s Companion series, which began with Stranger Than Fiction. You don’t need to read the other book first, but I’m sure you will want to read it at some point. I really enjoyed the characters and the twist with the heroine being a writer who uses her skills in a unique way.
Vivian is a romance writer who believed she had written a tale of a trapped vampire assassin character from her imagination. The story hadn’t been a “story” at all, but Niall talking to her and her magical words had freed him. Freeing him has revealed that she is his Companion and blood servant, but the relationship could be deadly for her.
Niall is a vampire protector with a strong connection to Vivian. But humans and the Consulate he works for don’t go well together. He fears for her safety and yet can’t give her up.
