When the books opens you meet Emma Blake who has had enough of her humdum boring life. After suddenly breaking up with her boyfriend she decides to head to the last place on earth she would ever go. Aftershock is a bar where great bands preform and people drink beer.  As Emma pulls up outside she knows that this is a place she has to check out.  Once inside she orders her first beer ever and heads to the stage to watch the band. Mark is the bass guitarist of the band and Emma is drawn to him like lighting.  Which is the name of the band Marc is in.  They make eye contact and that evening they make sweet music together.  Emma gives herself a fake name Music Lady which is what she wants to become.
The rest of the story is Emma coming to terms with the new person she is becoming and her learning to trust Marc.  She feels that all he is, is the bass guitarist that she met at the club however Marc has a much deeper side.  He spends much of the book trying to learn more about the real Emma and not that girl he met at the bar. He knows if he is patient enough she’ll come around!
I highly recommend this book.  It was fun to read and it made me think a little about myself.  I would love to shed my quite personality and go meet a guy in a band and Emma shows me that he can be everything I’m looking for! Wonderful job, Desiree!

There is something mysterious and sexy about WWII for me so when I saw this book I knew I had to read it.  The book highlights the fact that there was a resistance movement in Germany during the War and it touches on a relationship that crosses religious and social boundaries.   The story starts with a flashback of a beautiful young, Jewish, bankers daughter named Rebecca running directly into the definition of an Aryan male named Gustav.  She is embarrassed and wants nothing to do with the large man, whereas he would like nothing more than to lose himself in her if he beauty.  Rebecca quickly walks away hoping to forget the man and move on with her life.  Gustav wonders if he’ll ever forget her.
Fast forward to the night of Kristnacht in Berlin when the Jewish people are thoughtlessly rounded up and arrested.  Rebecca has lost her family and her fiancé and has had nothing to eat for days.  She knows that she must run and after packing a bag she escapes from her apartment.  It doesn’t take long for a few thugs to start following her. Luckily Gustav hears her cry out and steps in.  He takes her to his home which he shares with his Grandmother Berite and so begins a love story that will make you both laugh and cry.  I loved this book. I couldn’t put it down and after finishing it started reading it again!

Upon arriving home Jake’s quick wit and kitchen skills keep the family from starving.  While settling into there new lives Amanda’s brother threatens her with legal action to make her return to her home and marry a man of his choosing.  Jake has some hard to decisions to make as to how much he is willing to risk to keep Amanda and the children together.

Jake is a man who doesn’t believe in love and Amanda is a women who wants to believe that the fairytales she tells that children are true.  The story follows Jake learning to accept the children as his own and figuring out that maybe it isn’t only the children that need Amanda. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is looking for a book to lose themselves in on a rainy day.  It is the kind of book which makes you smile and laugh out loud. Three cheers to the author!

When I was a little girl I always dreamt of being a mermaid, as a teenager I wondered how mermaids had sex and now as an adult I still wonder.  When I saw the title of this book I knew I had to read it!  Rebecca Royce did not disappoint.  You meet Laneigh standing on the deck of a cruise ship waiting for her long lost (sexy) lover Sylarusto appear. Laneigh was banned from the ocean ten years prior and the only way to could see Syalrus was if she went on the cruise ship and called out for him.  Although angry at each other the chemistry they feel is still there and the electricity between the two jumps off the pages.

Chemistry isn’t the only thing between the pair.  They have a ten year old daughter who Sylarus knows nothing about.  Laneigh must also tell her lover about the curse of mer folk living on dry land which is that eventually they lose all there powers and they die.  It is a race against the clock and the King of the Mers to see if Sylarus can both win back and save the women he loves.  To complicate matters a little further Sylarus’s Father is the king.

I highly recommend this book. I enjoyed every page, although I am still curious of how Mers mate under the sea.  I suppose that is a question to be answered another day.

Imagine having the courage (not to mention the figure) to put on a G-string, paint yourself green and head to a party. Well that is just what the local librarian Colleen does. Colleen is looking for a one night stand to help her embrace her less librarian side she wants to be the star of a romance novel.  After a few glasses of wine Colleen heads to a party thrown at the X boyfriend of her best friend’s house.  (This is the best friend who just painted her in green apple body paint!) Wine or not Colleen is having some problems deciding if she is going to take off the coat she has on or if she's going to hide in a corner.  Upon arriving Colleen is noticed by Dan, a loveable nice guy who isn’t in to the party scene he finds himself, upon spying Colleen across the room he figures out the lady in green is more than just another bimbo at the party.   Before any of the less then chivalrous men swoop in Dan walks over to Colleen and starts a conversation.  What follows are a few hot scenes and both main characters learning about falling in love.

I loved this book from the first page.  L.K. did a wonderful job making you connect with her characters and I felt myself feeling the feelings that the characters were feeling.  Also I love books, movies and really anything that is a fairytale rewritten, I am a hopeless romantic.  I would highly recommend this book and I hope to read more by L.K. soon.

Smut reading: 4 outta 5

This book begins with the very sexy Dorian waking up in his bedroom downstairs and noticing an unknown presence on the main floor of his house. Upon arriving upstairs he meets the beautiful Cerita who is upstairs preparing the food for a party being held that evening. While falling in love with her cheese puffs he finds himself falling for her. What follows is a sexy look at two supernatural beings falling in love and facing all the obstacles thrown at them together. The couple work is to very different fields Cerita is a caterer and Dorian buys and sells off companies. But they share a love for food which brings them together and the talk of food and sex made me want more! The sex is steamy and you don’t have to wait long for it to happen. The couple has a good dialogue together and I found myself smiling right along with them as they fall in love. The couple has very strong family ties, which is made obvious from when Dorian allows his cousins girlfriend to throw a party in his house. As Dorian and Cerita fall in love the relationships they have with their families become more important as you turn each page …

I liked the steaminess of this book there was plenty of smut and the conversations between Dorian and Cerita were enjoyable. I have a few issues however, first is there are some typos which when I noticed them they drew me away from the story and I had to look at them and make sure I was reading correctly. I also did not like that there was not a lot of back story. I felt like the characters (especially the family members) were very flat, you never find anything out about their histories or about what kind of supernatural powers they have. That goes for Dorian and Cerita also. They both have a lot of powers (including being able to talk to each other in their mind, which is sweet) but you never find out what theyreally are. Is Dorian a vampire, shape shifter, what? He eats but he takes blood. It didn’t make any sense.

At the end of the day I recommend this book as long as you aren’t looking for a lot of back story. Generally when I’m reading a book in this genre I’m looking for the couple to fall for each other quickly and the sexy smut to begin (I hate waiting till the end of the book for the love making) and this book gives me that.
