Can Eliza’s and Hank’s marriage be saved or is it already too late after his affair with town tart Sylvia? Her homewrecking ways threaten to end all three of their lives. HIV looms over then like a dark shroud. Can any be saved?
Sterling, an ancient vampire, mourns the loss of his beloved Alana. He never thought he’d find another woman to take her place. Yet, he finds hope in Eliza.
Will Eliza accept his dark gift before it’s too late?
Can she find it within herself to love a creature of the night? Is it possible his love can cure her?
Let me start by saying that in a over-saturated vampire market. Ms Devon managed a new twist on what has become a well-worn story line. Eliza is a confused, and with good reason, upset heroine who is grasping for anything that will keep her life sane. Even if that means a self-centered, womanizing husband. But who could blame her when she has just received what to many would be a death sentence of a positive HIV test result.
Sterling has been a great friend to Eliza, but when she pulls away from him because she doesn't want to cheat on her husband, he stays around acting as her protector as much as a vampire can.
To be blunt, this story had a great potential, the story was interesting, the characters engaging, but the author didn't give the time or pages to the story that this tale was due. Once past the initial scene where Hank, our villain, is packing his bags to leave, a scene well written with great emotion and color, we are left on a bullet train ride. Things happen so quickly that the reader is left wondering what happened. A few times I was confused by what was going on and had to reread the section several times. I know this was supposed to be a short story but it was a story that deserved and would have had this reviewer reading another 40 pages had it been there. I look forward to seeing what Ms Devon brings to her next book and hopes she give her next great tale the space it needs so her characters can fly.
If you are a true vampire fan looking for a quick read, you will enjoy this tale.
