In this fourth book of The Queens of Merab series, Princess Temair is seeking the last of the four elemental Consorts that she must have before taking over the throne of Merab. She arrives in the lands of Earth and is immediately drawn to Elan, the biggest of Lady Earth’s sons. He is almost completely opposite her first three Consorts, far different than his other twenty-six siblings, and is surrounded by a sense of calm and steadiness that she can’t resist.

Elan, the thirteenth son of Lady Earth, thinks wistfully of belonging to Temair and her other Consorts, but he is certain his dream can never come true. He isn’t a first son like the other three Consorts. He isn’t as beautiful on the outside as the others. And he is huge, intimidates most women. How could he possibly ever be considered for the final husband she seeks?

With this book, the rebellion is growing stronger. Temair has discovered what a troubled society she will rule over, how men are abused and exploited. She cannot allow that to continue, but first she must have all of her elemental powers and the support of her four Consorts. Even as she nears gaining all that she needs, an enemy who has followed the Princess and her Consorts reveals himself, shocking them with his identity.

This has been an exceptional series from book one on. Reading each new book has been like going back to look in on the lives of old friends. The characters have grown both in the depth of their characterizations but also in the strength of the special relationship built together. At first I wasn’t sure about how four men could share one woman, especially four such strong men. But Violet Summers convinced me that it was possible. I look forward to more stories about these characters and their friends.

This series gets better with each story. You do not want to miss reading any of the series!

Princess Temair continues on her tour of the Queendom to find her third Consort. Her first two husbands travel with her and she falls more deeply in love with them as time goes on. But she faces her first real challenge in the Land of Aire in claiming her next consort. At the same time she works through this obstacle, a scheming villain is in the background and determined to end her life.

Aire Lord Zevan lives a miserable life, would like to escape it, but doesn’t believe it is possible. He has known only humiliation and the worst side of women. Temair’s kindness shocks him as much as he is drawn to her. But can he dare to hope for the life she offers him?

With each novella, the reader is gifted with a chance to grow more in love with the men in Temair’s life. Each man is so different from the others and yet fits both perfectly with her and with the family she is creating. At the same time the romantic relationships are developing, a plot thickens for war in the background. This is another definite keeper.

In this book two of Queens of Merab, Temair is finally stepping toward taking over her role as Queen of Emetra. She must find and marry four men from the different elemental worlds, men who will complete her. Along with her first consort, Miach Lord Fyre, she moves into the Rayne lands to search for her second consort. Yet the task of searching out her next husband is not the only problem she faces. A rebellion is brewing and someone wants her dead.

Dathan, Lord Rayne, is almost a complete opposite of the prickly Lord Fyre. He may be the eldest son of the rulers of Rayne, but he believes he is also the least likely of the seven sons to be seriously considered as a consort for the next Queen. But on first sight of the arriving royal couple, Dathan is drawn to the “luscious little Princess” and to her hottie first consort. Miach could be a problem, though.

This series just gets better. The characters are wonderful, the mix of magic and sensuality interesting, and the sexual tension hot, hot, hot. I was in love with the first consort, but now I love both of the men.

Temair isn’t ready to be the next Queen of Emetra, but her time has come. She isn’t ready to go into the Queendom and find the four consorts of the various elements that she must marry. Again, she must do what is necessary. When she meets her first consort, a handsome and proud warrior of Fyre, he lights an unexpected spark within her.

Miach, the eldest Lord Fyre, has only lived preparing to battle and train. He has never considered marriage, nor desired it. But when the heat flies between he and Temair, his life changes whether he wants it to or not. She chooses him for her first consort and he can’t refuse. And maybe he didn’t really want to anyway.

There is an interesting cast of characters set up in this first story in the series, The Queens of Merab. Conflicts are many, particularly external. And the sexual tension grows steadily into heat, heat, and more heat. You will want to read all of the stories in the series.

Oliver has dreamed of being Basque all his life, but there is no Basque blood in his lineage. The fact doesn’t keep him from becoming an expert on all things Basque. When his college professors send him on an excavation of a Basque whaling ship sunk in a bay, he finally gets a chance to learn more first-hand. He meets Jack at the excavation and isn’t at all sure he likes the man, until they play a game of pelota.

Jack has dreamed of everything Inuit all his life. He is the top graduate Inuit researcher from another college sent to work on the excavation of the whaling ship. He is at first very competitive with Oliver concerning Basque issues and Inuit issues. A brief argument following a game of pelota brings the two young men closer.

The story was very short and the introduction to the characters brief. Their conflicts were based on their individual specialties and not really something to overcome. The heat of the moment after the pelota game was okay, but too brief. My main problem with this story was that there was too much background of the characters and information about the two cultures. For a longer story that would have been all right. I would have liked this to be a longer story and follow the growing relationship of the characters.

Loves torn apart, loves found again. Two seriously hot men had their bride stolen from them and have searched for months to find her. They never gave up.

Isis knows only artificial lovemaking via machines, living on a planet of only women. But she has dreamed of men loving her, and yet didn’t think that was possible. Then one day a barbarian takes her from PrimeC and tells her she doesn’t belong there. She belongs with him and with another equally barbaric and hot man. She is their woman. Can it be true? Can she really belong with Rafe and Tristin?

For a very short story, it was nicely developed. The characters had a certain amount of depth, their external conflict is difficult, and their internal conflicts are complicated. But there was a determination to overcome obstacles and again find the loving relationship they had once shared. Wonderful, touching, and seriously hot!

Book 5 in The Queens of Merab series

Book 1: Temair’s Fyre

Book 2: Temair’s Rayne

Book 3: Temair’s Aire

Book 4: Temair’s Earth

By this book in the series, Queen Temair has her four Consorts and is married to all of them. The first two, Miach and Dathan, are sent on a mission to investigate a problem in the war of the Male Rebellion.

Miach hates being away from Temair and is uncomfortable being alone with Dathan. There is a mutual attraction between them that worries Miach. He feels brotherly toward the other two Consorts, but much more than that to Dathan. “The push and pull of his feelings for Dathan…almost giddy with lust.”

Dathan has been drawn to Miach since the first time he saw him. He wants Miach even more now. They both love their wife, but can they love each other as well?

I really wish I had read the first four parts of this series, and I will. The cast of characters is wonderful, the conflicts mainly internal in this story, but the heat is seriously hot.

Miach, Lord Fyre: powerful magician

Dathan, Lord Rayne: equal in power to Miach

Zevan, Lord Aire: vicious and dirty fighter, strategist

Elan, Lord Earth: gentle, nonjudgmental

Things don’t always go as planned and Halyn finds this out on a supposedly simple rescue mission. As a spacemerc, he knows trouble and how to adapt to it. Until he runs into Natacha, the woman he is rescuing from PrimeC, where women are brainwashed, held against their will, and kept in passionate dreams by the use of machines. Her reactions to him…his reactions to her…all threaten the life he’d been leading.

Natacha has been unaware of anything beyond persistent passion and overwhelming needs for too long. She is confused as a strange man rescues her. As she suffers deep lust, a side effect of withdrawal from the gases used on her when she was a prisoner, she makes Halyn’s life a kind of personal hell. She wants him; he struggles to resist. But as time goes on…

This is a follow-up book to Deep Space Encounters: Reclaiming Isis, which I, unfortunately, have not read yet. I enjoyed the characters in this book, their unusual conflicts, and definitely the intense heat they struggled with. For a short novella, it was a great read, a hot read.

Passion, potential mates, and prejudice…Book four in the L’Auberge Pipistrelli series has all of it.

Maria Mannaro, the younger sister of two older Alpha wolf brothers, is continuing with a secret love affair with a vampire and interfering in one of her brothers’ lives. She is friends with a werewolf, Elaine Vargas, from another book, who wants to mate with Luc. Elaine returns to try and convince Luc that they can have a future in spite of their differences.

Luc Mannaro feels strongly about Elaine but his prejudices run deep. He is a descendant of an ancient race of werewolves who have long inhabited this Italian state as proprietors of an inn that is the winter home for a colony of vampires. She is of a lesser lineage.

The characters were fairly well developed, but I was a bit lost in their background. Romances begun in other books of the series continue, but it would be a good idea to read the first three books before this one. I couldn’t tell if the series was going to continue or not. I hope so, because there seemed to be many loose ends.

This is not your everyday vampire story, not almost comic-sweet or dark and heart-stopping. I enjoyed it more than I expected to when I first started reading the novella.

Esteban “Sudsy” Waters is one of the oldest vampires, owns a vampire hotel in Las Vegas, and has been protecting both humans and vampires for centuries. More than that, he is an ass-kicking beauty when in drag and hotter-than-hot when in vampire crime-fighting mode. He has made it a rule not to get romantically involved with mortals, but when a gorgeous singer in trouble crosses his path…

Julian, a mortal human, has worked hard to build his music career and, after his relationship with an old friend, martial artist lover falls apart, he plans to focus only on his career. But life gets even more complicated when he gets attacked by “friends” of his ex-lover. The attack threatens his life as well as causes problems for his career. And then he meets a stunning drag queen who is so much more than that. He has never been drawn to men in drag before, but Sudsy is different. Sudsy is…irresistible. Beyond that, Sudsy is involved in something he keeps secret from Julian, something that can ruin their relationship…or get one or both of them killed.

The characters were very well developed. Their internal conflicts were believable within the genre. The emotions and setting details were nicely handled. And the external obstacles were enough to keep the reader pulling for them. Overall, this was a wonderful read. I am anxious to read the next story in the series.

Cowboy Dru, Drustan, Dru…whatever name he goes by is hot, and not just because he is a dragon shapeshifter. This was such a fun, romantic story and I wish it had been longer.

Raen has been burned in marriage before and is reluctant to try a serious relationship again. But she has made a friend on the Internet, a cowboy, and he sent her a photo. Now she fantasizes about the handsome cowboy. If only…

Dru is a rancher and a shapeshifting dragon. Out with his friends one night, he meets the local “Ice Queen,” a woman known to emasculate a man for even trying to flirt with her. But he realizes he wants to do far more than flirt with Raen. “All dragons are born with the knowledge of how to find their mate.” He has found his, except convincing her they belong together for life isn’t easy.

The characters are nicely developed for this short of a story. There are all sorts of conflicts: internal concerns of not feeling worthy of being loved by such a handsome man, knowing in his soul that he has found the only mate he could ever have and needing to convince her, external differences (he’s a dragon shapeshifter and she’s a human). Overall, an enjoyable story. Hot, too.

Finding that special someone to love can be tricky, even more so in certain circumstances. This was a wonderful story of such a search for that right person to share a life with.

Robert desperately needs to hire a personal assistant and he has found one that he likes but is hesitant to hire. He is drawn to the young man, but Robert is gay. He fears a future sexual harassment problem if he can’t control his desires. Yet, determined that he can, he decides to give Lee a chance.

Lee has been working hard to improve his life from its hard beginnings. He has wanted to thank Rob for something he had done to help Lee a few years ago. An opportunity to do so comes up and he applies for a job he isn’t qualified for, with the hope that he can both finally thank Rob and possibly get the job.

This was a story of people daring to take a chance at helping someone and at trusting their heart. I loved the characterizations, the emotional depths to both Robert and Lee, and their struggles with internal and external conflicts. I was pulling for them both and hoping they could find their well-deserved happiness.

Two Faeries, Snow and Rose, live together as best friends and lovers in the Magical Forest and are content with their life. Their biggest fears are the lightning witches. Until one day they find an injured bear, but they do not fear him and decide to tend to his wounded paw. Balen, the white shapeshifting bear/man, is pleased by their concern for him…even more pleased when the two beauties begin pleasuring each other in front of him. He surprises them by shifting into a prime male specimen, perfect for taking on two horny female Faeries.

The story is very short and the characters unique, but only slightly developed due to the limited length of the story. I didn’t see any real conflicts and had a hard time figuring out just how big the Faeries were in comparison to the man. The idea behind the storyline was good, but I needed a bit more explanation here and there.

Can potential enemies become lovers…or more?

Katie Crusoe hasn’t had an easy life. She is determined to rid the world of vampires, especially those who don’t heed her warnings of not turning humans. She hires out as a protector of the innocent, as a vampire killer.

Anton Bezier hasn’t had an easy life either, in spite of being a billionaire industrialist. He is one of the oldest vampires and he has a conscience. Someone important to him needs to be protected from another vampire elder and he hopes Katie can help him. Still, asking your enemy for help is risking a lot. And finding love again after all these years complicates everything even more.

I enjoyed this vampire futuristic romance and the characters. Since the story was short there wasn’t a lot of time to develop the characters, but the author did a good job of giving the reader enough background to care about them. The conflicts were mainly based on the differences in who they were: vampire versus vampire killer. But there was a nice surprise ending.
