Romy Douglass has every reason to be suspicious when luscious Lucius Capri invites himself to join her for lunch in a crowded Miami café. After all, she guards her privacy, and her heart, with ferocious single-mindedness after a lifetime of neglect by her wealthy parents and recent abandonment by her fiancé. But she abandons her usual caution (perhaps too quickly) in the face of Lucius’ blatant sexuality and persistent attention.

Lucius Capri is an operative for a mysterious government agency, for whom Romy is initially nothing but a “mark”. His mission is to locate and retrieve a collection of ancient statues sent to her by her father, but as soon as he makes contact bullets begin to fly. To complicate matters further, he begins to fall for the beautiful, but prickly, Romy. Although both fight it, their relationship blossoms as they find themselves up to their eyeballs in spies, assassins, Central American political intrigue, and giant emeralds.

This story is action-packed, with unexpected twists at every turn. The imagery sparkles with originality. However, I would like to have seen some elements developed more fully. The plot is very complex, and sometimes clarity was sacrificed to keep the pace fast. Additionally, the character development suffered a similar fate. This is a story that deserved the additional pages necessary to give the reader the complete experience the author intended.
