In the year 1820, Pegeen, a white Irish slave, is purchased by Josiah Cavanaugh, himself a former slave, now wealthy land and slave owner. Enslaved since she was five years old, Pegeen is used to her lot in life, and the privileges her masters have over her body and soul. So she has no reason to believe that her new owner will treat her differently.
But Josiah is a master of a different color in many ways and Pegeen begins to find her long suppressed emotions reaching the surface again in his house and his bed. It is still the highly prejudiced American South of the 1800’s, however, and it is not going to be easy for this unlikely couple to find happiness together.
Black Master, White Slave is a very well written story, compelling in its plot and sensuality. I sat down for a moment, and didn’t get up again until I finished it. The characters are extremely likeable and the reader will wish for their happiness throughout the story.
In fact, I found myself thinking how things have changed, but in a lot of ways stayed the same. I would have given the story a higher rating, but there was one element of the plot which didn’t seem to me to reach resolution. But it is still well worth reading, and I plan to read more of this author’s work very soon.

I bought this ebook based on the cover and the title. I was surprised it was truly a good book. My mom's family was from the New Orleans area so I know it was on point with the historical references. Really good book!
